Hey friendo, I was listening to The Clash's song "This is England" and decided to listen to Bruce's "Born in the USA" and thought of you. How've you been? Where'd you disappear to? How's your year been? Hope you're well!

Glad you liked ♋︎❤️🎵!; ) I actually got to see Stephin Merritt play an acoustic show at a very intimate venue, the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago -- he played 26 songs, one for each letter, in alphabetical order, starting off with "Absolutely Cuckoo" and "The Book of Love", and I got to hear him play everything I wanted to hear. It was great. I got to meet him afterwards too and get his scrabble poetry book signed. He's previously played 69 Love Songs in-full at the same venue over three nights. He's doing a 50 Song Memoir over two nights, so I'll try to see him again hopefully. He's my favorite songwriter after Vashti Bunyan, so it's a real honor. I love all his projects: The Magnetic Fields, The 6ths, The Gothic Archies, Future Bible Heroes, and solo material as Stephin Merritt. He has a Series of Unfortunate Events-inspired album, which is really fun, I highly recommend that one! This one is fun to sing: https://youtu.be/0I2OnGIvzV0?list=PL8a6HF7kZOdRiP99lyLFIqepvf5uwhzey

awww I know what you mean, Bruce makes you feel like a winning loser, and that almost sounds like a Bruce song already from your description. Hope you can keep your sanity! I'd chill with you to decompress. And awh, that's so sweet of you, I pop by on your page too :) I'm like a fire hydrant that won't shut up when it comes to the Magnetic Fields. 69 Love Songs is a terrific triple album albeit long and hard to listen in one sitting. It took me a while to realize Stephin Merritt is gay, because of the gender reversal of having a female singer, like for Reno Dakota (the band has a gay guy, a lesbian, straight woman, and straight man, so the songs are interestingly balanced and universally relatable). I'd start with their first albums tho! Distant Plastic Trees/The Wayward Bus might be my favorite album ever I think. So many of their songs, as you'll notice, have motifs of referencing the moon and blue eyes, and lots of songs about being a loser and heartbreak set to upbeat music.

I'm always so impressed when I look at your charts! So diverse and eclectic. I think we have very similar sensibilities in music taste. We both love Bruce, the Boss. I was watching this tribute to him: https://youtu.be/MwU0XxmhiQU Hope you're well! Tell me how you're doing? What a crummy year, but hopefully we'll turn it around!

thank you for the rec! i love how you spelled out the band with emojis.. the day of an emoji band name will come soon, i can only imagine. i enjoyed listening a lot! what strange music.. weird blend of african, indian, and middle eastern.. i can't think of anything like it. did you know Jeff Mangum has a field recording of Bulgarian folk music (https://youtu.be/StnhhR_S-mM) and some BJM songs capture this energy i think!

I've tried to see AnCo a couple of times in the midwest.... the first time Avey Tare had strep throat so they cancelled the tour and I got a refund, and the second time I didn't have means of transportation so I had to sell my ticket last minute :\ maybe next album tour I'll get to see them!! and yeah, Deakin's the guitarist in AnCo, but he wasn't on the new Painting With album and he wasn't on MPP either. He took 6 years to make that Sleep Cycle album because of anxiety and insecurities... and it's only 6 songs, but dammit he managed to blow out all expectations. "JUST AM" and "GOLDEN CHORDS" were my early favorite, but "GOOD HOUSE" grew on me. It's an album that gets more rewarding with each listen.... best enjoyed listening idly and passively in meditation while driving imo! also, here's a Bob Dylan song as remixed by Deakin and Geologist: https://soundcloud.com/anmlcollective/dont-think-twice-its-all-right-animal-collective-remix

hm hm hm, "What Would I Want Sky?" has gotta be their best, right? And I really like "The Purple Bottle" of course (I think Khalana would be a great name for a daughter someday based on that song ;)) And so many from Strawberry Jam are fun to sing... MPP is special to me, I have some fond memories of driving around while listening to that album and feeling transcendental. I was blown away by Deakin's album Sleep Cycle from this year, strong contender for top AotY... did you hear it? AnCo is so amazing, I'd like to see them live in concert before dying. What about you?

ahah congrats on recognizing Ruth Gordon! I used to have a gif of a young Bud Cort blowing bubbles in my sidebar before the site redesign, in reference to Harold and Maude (1971), still my favorite movie.... have you seen it? and ahh my username is a reference to "Walkabout" by Atlas Sound ft. Panda Bear (used to be my fav song for a time) and also the lyric "I want to walk around with you.... just you, just you, just you" from "Summertime Clothes"... altho now, autumn has come and killed summer with the softest of kisses

Your music library is so diverse and varied.... you have such immaculate tastes!! I gave a listen to "Pebbles" by Pumice because of your profile pic.... what a weird and wondrous mix of lo-fi/psych/experimental sounds and free folk.... can you think of more like that? It makes me think of Nest, a Norwegian-Welsh ambient project (http://shop.serein.co.uk/album/retold) and also this Norwegian folk-jazz duo, Stein Urheim & Mari Kvien, with an album called "For Individuals Facing The Terror Of Cosmic Loneliness" (https://youtu.be/hgZWgxS_1Ns?list=PLXGKI-9LbIOH3NO4wkUTG_AejkQZK0SfW)
