I've already bought a few CDs again - some albums that I previously had on vinyl, such as three by Thin Lizzy, and a few new things such as by The Pineapple Thief, Jennifer Lopez, Kula Shaker and Kacey Johansing. I also bought a few CDs with classical music, including music by Edvard Grieg.

ah yeah they're an interesting band they started with the death doom (their first album is VERY raw) then they went gothic and then later on kinda like a metal version of Depeche Mode. Then they went back to the growled vocals in the last ten years My favourite ones are Icon and Draconian Times They actually rerecorded Icon last year. Not as good obviously but their old record label is in a mess so they couldn't get the album reissued. They took a leaf from Taylors book

I know! I just picked up a copy of her last one this week, star-crossed is an interesting listen, wonder if she'll continue down that path or do something else closer to Golden Hour. I'm good over here, super mild winter, a chilly morning here and there but other than that temps are pretty comfortable, hopefully that doesn't mean a super hot summer. How's things with you?

Yeah so far it’s been fine… cold but no real problems. It’s colder in the Austin area than it is here. Hope your dad is ok. 👍

Both bands were great, Baroness is super tight on stage and Baizley is a really exciting to watch. Definitely a no frills presentation but the music sounded really awesome. Escuela Grind was rad too, got the singer to sign my cd and kind of fanboyed a bit talking to her. Super friendly and approachable. I love it when the musicians are selling their merch. Was going to grab a shirt too but had to talk myself down. I think Escuela Grind is over in your hood opening for Napalm Death right now.

I used to have it too, remember it being a bit of big deal when they got picked up by a major label. Its not my favorite period of theirs but revisiting, it's better than I remember it being. Inside the Torn Apart is pretty rad too. Going to see Escuela Grind on Sunday with Baroness, they play a similar style to Napalm, really looking forward to checking them out.

I'll see if I can find that one, I know I've probably heard it at some point but can't remember anything about it. I finally got around to picking up a copy of Firepower last month. I just need to get Nostrodamus and Angel of Retribution to complete the JP collection. Not counting the Ripper Owens albums though...

Hi Tyson! How are things? I see there is a new Grace Potter album here. Going to queue it up after the Dawes album I am listening to. Do you have any musical recommendations for me? My favorite album right now is Memories To Burn by The Williams Brothers. Hope y'all are well. The boys are getting so big! Take care!

Hi Annie! I like that Grace Potter album a lot, did you get a chance to check it out? I feel like most of my listening this year has been driven by whatever show I happen to have coming up. Lately been listening to a bunch of Royal Thunder, just went and saw them this last Saturday with my wife. I really like their new one Rebuilding the Mountain. Other than that, latest Margo Price is awesome, it's been out for a while now, Rhiannon Giddens and Tanya Tucker's latest would recommend checking out as well. Kids are definitely growing, oldest just turned 15, kinda crazy, Thanks for the recs, need to juice up my playlist over here! How you been?

Awesome, I'm sure that was a great show! Last time I saw them was when they were doing a tour with Opeth a couple years ago, they never disappoint! Doing alright over here, just trying to get through this summer, the heat has been pretty intense this year, it's been triple digits for us since mid June. Looking forward to seeing First Aid Kit next month too. How have you been?

I have all the studio albums, plus I have a dvd called "An Evening With the Dixie Chicks". It's a totally stripped down performance, well worth checking out if you haven't seen it. The Chicks were the first country band I ever got into, I loved the sound on Ready to Run and totally sucked me in for the rest of it.

That's a bummer :( but at least you got your vacation in. I'm going to see Tom Keifer (singer from Cinderella) at the end of the month, should be a fun show. Summer is pretty low key over here. Wife is still recovering from knee surgery but she's able to get around now which is making things easier. Next year I'm hoping we'll get a nice vacation in, would be nice to get some beach time in.

You won't believe that - by chance I was chatting with Lawrence Gowan of Styx yesterday. He liked a Facebook comment I made on a Styx post and invited me to a personal Messenger conversation. We chatted for almost an hour and to top it off he invited me to a meet and greet - to the States. ;-) But I'm terribly afraid of flying and he's on it - okay, let me know and my management will fly me to Germany. Crazy, right?

Live music is always good! The only concert on my calendar is First Aid Kit in September. I'm hoping to catch Tom Keifer from Cinderella at the end of July but haven't bought a ticket for it yet. It's right down the street from my house too which makes it pretty tempting. My wife just had a knee replacement surgery last week so I was keeping my summer plans to the minimum in case she needed a lot of care.

That sounds awful, at least in my wife's case it was a planned surgery but hasn't been a fun week as she recovers. She's having a pretty good day today and moving around quite a bit without as much pain so there's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm just hoping at the end of this she can get back to some of the activities that she used to enjoy.

Hi👋 See if your streaming music server (cant remember which you have) has the Sheena Ringo - Crime and Punishment song. I remember you saying you didn’t hear anything that really interested you when you were there… and maybe this won’t either… but it might.

I found it, not really into it, she sounds like a good singer but the language is a real barrier on this one for me. I can listen to Brazilian jazz in Portuguese and don't have an issue there, it's probably something to do with the arrangement with the vocal style that is off putting. I can listen to some foreign language songs and enjoy them but it's pretty rare in my library. Therion had a cool album of French pop songs redone as metal songs that was pretty fun to listen to called Le Fleurs du Mal.

They are so awesome, you should totally go! The other two bands this last time were really good too, Blood Incantation and Immolation. I managed to get an official guitar pick this last time from Kenny Andrews. Funny enough that's my second one from him. Going to have to see them again to get another one!

Hey there! I love Yes, not sure how I feel about Yes with a different singer though but I should probably give it a try. I haven't listened to as much new music lately, been diving into some of my older albums. I've been struggling trying to find a decent cd player, was just using a cheap portable but it seems to be on it's way out. Tried ordering a cd component made by Onkyo but had to send it back as it skips on brand new discs. Just doesn't seem to be too many options available these days for new players. I like owning my music but if I can't find anything to play it on, just frustrating....

I just bought another portable player to replace the one I was using. They're pretty cheap so I guess if it dies then I'll get another one. I'll probably just stop buying cd's at this point unless I'm getting one directly from the artist. I'd say vinyl is the way to go now, they're practically indestructible and as long as you have a good belt and a decent needle, they just work.

Vinyl is no longer an option for me. I bought vinyl for many years before CDs existed and was constantly annoyed by the crackling, which significantly reduced the listening pleasure. From today's perspective, the only advantage of vinyl would be the large front cover with the often impressive photos or illustrations. Otherwise I just don't have the space for it anymore.

I can certainly appreciate the space argument against vinyl and I having moved them a couple times, they are really heavy. I think my collection has doubled since we bought our current house so I'm probably going to have hire an army of movers! Anyhow, my little player has been working pretty good so far, not as cool looking as the component was but oh well... I go back and forth between streaming, cd's and vinyl, just depends on how many times I want to get up to switch over a record or just hit play and forget about it. A lot of the fun with vinyl for me is the going out to look and then finding something fun to listen to. With the cd's I have to order them online, no real surprises left there anymore. Still nice to look back and see what you were listening to over the years.

Hey! Not much happening over here, just ready for summer. How about you? The only new releases I've been really into so far this year is Margo Price's Strays and the new ones from Metallica and Katatonia. I have a few things on my list of releases that I should probably follow up on like Paramore and then a new one from Nickel Creek. I also heard one from Starlett and Big John that I thought was pretty cool, it's bluegrass, so not sure if that would be something you would be interested in.

Both worthy additions to their respective catalogs, edge is probably going to Metallica if only that it will probably be one I can listen to without my family complaining about it. Pretty stoked on both albums though. Metallica is like the home team, I have to root for them, I'm just happy it's a pretty good album too.

Yeah its got some good stuff. As with all their recent stuff, it's on the long side. I think that's why I went with Overkill as my favourite of the two 😃 Shame I can't catch metallica live this year. They're doing two sets at Download Festival (again, i cant make it unfortunately), no songs repeated. Be interesting to see what they play.

The Stones have so many great songs in their catalog, hard to pick favorites. I'm a bit of a recent convert, only been listening to them for maybe the last 10 years or so but I've managed to collect everything up through Steel Wheels on vinyl now. Lots of great buried gems in there.
