I had the same reaction to Amaarae's album! It was cool but I would switch to something else in the middle. I don't recall any real standouts. Did you like Janelle's latest album? I liked it way more than I expected. I got the chance to meet her at a record store signing a few weeks back. She's truly physical perfection in the flesh! I liked the singles from Billie's debut even if they were a little overplayed. I liked Swarm! The ending was a little underwhelming but I liked its offbeat vibe. Dominique Fishback deserves more love as an actress. She killed her lead role, no pun intended. LOL.

Ha, I am surprised too! My opinion about Tyler changed when Flower Boy came out even if I respected it more than I bumped it. IGOR, though, really captured me. I found it for cheap at a local store and copped. Hypnos is one of my favorite R&B albums of the past five years, I'd say. It flows really nicely. Did you like Amaarae's latest? Also, is Billie Eilish worth a second look? I listened to her debut and thought it decent but can't remember anything about it.

What's up, man? Long time, no talk. Your recent charts mirror mine, I see: I also loved Igor and Hypnos and recently got both on wax. Hope you're well.

I hear that. Lol. I have switched over to Spotify myself. Khaled's album is largely forgettable but the production slaps. You been watching the Verzuz matches?

What's up man? I really like Solange's current release. It actually makes me want to listen to THEESatisifaction, Muhsinah, Stacey Epps, etc.; all artists that seemed to inspire it's free-associative, sketchbook-esque style. What do you think of it? The critics are predictably glowing over it but everyday folks seemed to be mixed about it.

Mariah's album was a pleasant surprise for me since I didn't expect much and only listened on a whim. I really like the Blood Orange collabo and 8th Grade's beat switch during the second half. Yeah, it sure has been nearly 30 years since she came on the scene. It's crazy to even realize that. Oxnard falls short from the heights of Malibu/Yes Lawd but isn't exactly horrible IMO. I unno how I feel about him rapping more than singing this go' round. Same here! I thought Negro Swan was merely cool on first listen and put it aside. Then I revisited it out of nowhere one day and BAM, it just resonated with me. It was the same deal with his last two releases as well. This entire year just flew by. Like, literally. Any big plans for the holiday?

I'm saying! What's up, man? I'm just here preparing for the Holiday season. What do you think of Anderson .Paak and Mariah's latest? I see you're also feeling Negro Swan. It grew on me something seriously since I it's easily one of my albums of the year. I copped it on vinyl for a decent price recently.

I didn't even bother with Kanye's new album. Honestly, I think I should take time away from the spotlight until he gets his mental condition under control. You have a point about Rocky. At this point in his career, rapping is merely part of a larger brand. I'll spin back the track w/ Skepta. The Drake/Pusha battle was needed! The game had became too political and complacent. I completely agree about Drake. He's been going through the motions for a while and this beef could have revitalized the fire within him but instead it could tarnish his brand. Having a secret child w/ a porn star and not supporting it hurts him since most of his fans are female and he is seen as a "nice guy". Nicki's career has cooled off since the Remy beef IMO. Her latest singles haven't really made that much noise. Cardi stole a lot of her thunder. I can see Drake fatigue finally kicking in in addition to him losing the battle with Push. What do you think?

I checked it out last week and also thought it was pretty weak. He's always been style over substance but his production has always been strong. Hence why i'm surprised Testing didn't catch my ear even on that level. It did flop commercially (so far, at least). Kanye too. What do you think about the whole Drake/Pusha situation? I feel like it's the beginning of the end for him. It's crazy how both Nicki and he were both slaughtered on wax by underdogs and haven't been the same since.

I fuck with it too. A lot of older fans shit on it because it sounds so dissimilar to its predecessor but like you said, she revealed that this is what she wanted to put out first. Don't Judge Me is my highlight. Is ASAP Rocky's new one worth a listen? I haven't paid much attention to him these past few years but the guest list for his latest is decent. lol.

I'm mad late. Life has been a whirlwind lately. A good whirlwind tho. lol. Anyway, what is your conclusion on Dirty Computer now that it's now been out for about month? I think it's solid and quite different from the last two (less classic soul references and more explicit than before) yet I notice that I haven't cared enough to replay it since its release. Perhaps I will really start bumping it more in the summer months since its pretty upbeat. I think its interesting that she dropped the entire android shtick. how's everything been?

That's cool. I celebrated my birthday a couple weekends ago which was fun. Record buying is addictive, bro! I went through a HUGE record buying binge last summer...found so many gems. I've heard that Wax n Facts is the truth. Moods Music is also another a big spot in the A, right? Wow, you got an original pressing of Soul Food? I don't think its been reissued. That is a hell of a catch, man. Any other good recent purchases? Yeah, vinyl is the only format that's seen growth in revenue so I understand why they've jacked up the prices. Good albums on wax? Man, so many, but off the top of my head, I know that There's a Riot Goin On, What's Going On, Voodoo, Pinata (Gibbs and Madlib), Kind of Blue are some that sound amazing on wax. I put Pinata because its a rare rap album that sounds better on wax than digitally IMO.

Hey man, sorry for the lapse in response. Do you wind up turning up for NYE? I spent mine at a church event. Yesterday was my birthday so I'm just winding down from that. I agree about NERD's latest. The first few tracks are cool but there's too many features and nearly all of them are unnecessary. Overall, I find the album to be ultimately forgettable even if it's not quite awful. Congrats on joining the vinyl club! lol. What's the brand of the turntable? Crossley is a good one for turntable novices. I have one of their direct drive turntables and it plays just as good as a more expensive Technics. Vinyl prices have gotten beyond ridiculous. Prices for new releases used to be the same or cheaper as the CD edition. Now they're about double the price of the CD or digital copy!!! SMH. I recommend Amazon for marked down new wax. You buy any records yet?

Christmas was pretty low-key for me. Just dinner and a movie, really. What about you? Anything going down for New Years Eve? The new NERD album isn't their best; it sounds like more of a Pharrell solo album than anything else but it's not horrible, I guess. I have to revisit it one of these days.

Any plans for Christmas? I found BH3 to be well produced but kinda forgettable overall. War +Leisure is cool; kind of back to basics but like you, I'll have to listen some more before it probably grows on me.

How was your Thanksgiving? I decided to help feed the homeless this year. I think Molly is setting herself up by falling for Dro. It just highlights her low self esteem that she passes on suitable men just to be a married man's side chick even if he claims it's an "open relationship". lol. 1999 being a Lloyd song first makes a lot of sense. It's crazy, HENDRXX hits harder than the dreary FUTURE and it's supposed to the more low-key, introspective listen! lol. Lookin' Exotic is my shit. I agree, Future, like too many rappers, maybe releases TOO much material. It's hard to keep up. Did you like Beach House 3? How about Miguel's new album? I find the former well produced but ultimately forgettable while I have to give War +Leisure another close listen before I decided on a verdict.

I feel like most of the tracks on both releases sound the same, for the most part. I know that long playlists are the norm now in the streaming age (more songs equal more streams equals more dollars) but c'mon Future, you couldn't come harder than that. Maybe I'm just not in the right mood for it. Hey, does last.fm scrobble any of your devices? I sill listen to 80% of my music on my iPod while out and about BUT since the iTunes update, last.fm doesn't have plug ins to scrobble so my plays have decreased dramatically on here.

I agree that the characters on Insecure do seem very true to life and thus, not always likeable. I just think L and Molly seem a tad more reasonable and human than Issa, who is a jackass most of the time IMO. lol! I do find it commendable that she made herself so unlikeable on her own show; that shows humility! haha. I listened to KRIT's latest last night. It's not bad at all; easily his best 'official' album thus far. I like that he veered away from rap on much of the second half. I just don't get why dude isn't a more prolific producer for others. His ear for music is impeccable. Like, he should be scoring films and stuff. lol. 1999 is a cool little radio record. It felt like more of a Lloyd track than anything else. The Pac film was way lower budget than SOC and didn't have the same Hollywood muscle behind it. That and it sucked. lol. I tried both of Future's albums this year and is it me or did he get boring?

LOL! Yup, I had 'My Man Superman' as a AV. It's crazy, Barkley passed away quietly in the beginning of the year. I still have yet to listen to KRIT--life's been hectic, lately--but would you that it has any filler? Double albums, almost like a rule, have at least a few duds. The last season of Insecure definitely topped the first. Is it me or is Issa, the character, very unlikeable? I root for Laurence and Molly despite their f*ck ups but Issa remains an asshole for me. lol. Even if she does look really good nowadays. Her glow up has been real! The Pac biopic is cable TV-level. It sucks because the dude who plays him looks and sounds JUST LIKE HIM.

I agree. I can see Miguel remaining a huge cult artist even after his run on the radio ends. Both Sure Thing and Adorn were played to death on R&B radio and will be played for years and years from now. They both have that timeless quality to them. I have also fell off on Queen Sugar. I think some of the insider info I learned about the show from a friend of a friend who works on it influenced my decreased interest. lol. What did you think of Insecure? I still need to catch up on ST's second season. SOAN seems interesting. I am actually a fan of Barkley Hendricks, the artist that illustrated the cover. I had one of his painting as my AV on here a long time ago. I heard KRIT's album picks up from where he left off on the mixtapes w/ no crossover attempts as heard on his two DJ releases. Yo, did you see the 2Pac biopic?

lol. A lot of Wildheart's second half is fairly poppy. What's Normal Anyway sounds like something that you'd hear on Radio Disney IMO. I agree about him being on another level from his peers, vocally. He's easily one of the best vocalists out now and blows Ocean and Abel out of the water. It's funny you say that, I initially wrote DVSN off as yet another hipster electro-R&B, post-Weeknd act but based on the little I've played so far, it's above average. I've been watching all the black stuff--lol--like Insecure, Power, Survivor's Remorse (which is off the air now, sadly), some of Queen Sugar, etc. I want to check out S2 of Stranger Things on Netflix. I have't watched HTGAWM since its pilot--which I liked. What is the name of the book?

Blank Face's length was def its only real flaw. It could have stood to be trimmed a good 3-4 tracks IMO. It's funny, I was reading an interview with Miguel the other day where he talks about his own disappointment w/ Wildheart. I think he was trying to cross over and it didn't work out the way he hoped or planned. I need to check out DVSN. I see links for their album everywhere but never really listened. You been watching anything good lately?

These natural disasters, the Vegas massacre and Trump really make me wonder if the apocalypse near, straight up. Each day keeps getting stranger and scarier. smh. You took the words outta my mouth about Kendrick. Even though he has still has skills upon skills, he just seems like another rapper nowadays. For what its worth, I liked Blank Face better than DAMN. You haven't missed much w/ either Cole or the Weeknd. Neither really grew as artists despite gaining mainstream fame along the way, IMO of course. I plan on revisiting 4:44 too. I heard about KRIT's double album. I'll definitely cop. It's been a minute since I've listened to him; he's been quiet lately. You up on Miguel's last album? I actually copped it on vinyl for $10 at Urban Outfitters late last year. The first half slaps but that second half? lol.

I agree w/ the DC-Frank comparison. I'd add that Ceaser's music is a tad more soulful. It's getting to the point where when you wake in the morning, you're unsure if the world will still even be here. SMH. SH just feels very slight. I will say that a lot of the songs sound way better live. Yo!! I feel the same way about DAMN.! It peaked very early and doesn't have the same replay value for me like his previous releases IMO. It feels compromised like the label told him that they needed hits this time around especially after the non-commercial vibe of TPAB. I also find myself a whole lot less interested in him. This also goes for J. Cole, Abel and many others from the class of 2010. lol. I liked 4:44 on first listen but when folks start talking about it being so profound and Jay's best album, I'm like "Huh". lol. Have you seen the ticket prices for the tour? Insane. I find it weird he's doing arenas for this album since its more low key and un-radio friendly.

Thanks man. I like Daniel Ceaser's joint too. Has a nice Gospel feel to it. That's good that the A wasn't hit too hard. All of these natural disasters at once really cry to how much global warming has been neglected. Yeah, Seasons High is their weakest album IMO so far but still has some standouts. I was lucky enough to see them live in a smaller venue this summer. Really dope show. This new Raphael Saadiq/Faith Evans collabo is an outtake from SH and better than anything on it IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_GR_l5QtdM Have you checked out Gucci Mane's book? And what did you make of DAMN. and 4:44? I say they're the most overrated rap releases of the year (altho not bad per se.)
