For example. Today I listened to Arthur Russel's World of Echo on vinyl. And analogously, ink on paper scrobbled this fact by recording it in my diary.

Life would be less interesting if we all shared the same tastes. And if the things we have in common are rare, then that makes them special.

Well, I do go through fads and phases and have done since becoming interested in music from age 11 I think, yeh I got my first record deck for Xmas that year. That was more than 4 decades ago. But yeh my tastes do regularly shift. I'm quite pleased with the past year or so but if I look at my list of all-time artists on here, most I don't listen to anymore and many are a bit embarrassing.

and yours are pretty trad, are you sure you're not your Dad! I've just had a phase of listening to some of the stuff you listen to due to a recent binge on certain current bands who were influenced by that music from way back then, for example, there's a lot of Smashing Pumpkins, a pinch of Bikini Kill, and a dash of Sleater Kinny in Screaming Females.

Congrats on achieving already this '41k artists scrobbled' milestone :-) ... I discovered you and me in the "Discovery Leaderboard" section (May 8-14), you are at #2 place there: last DOT fm/user/snyde1/listening-report/week ... How's it going on your spot of the country ? here in Germany we now have to wear masks when driving bus, shopping and so on... I assume you too stay indoors recently in these pandemic times, as we also... Protect yourself

Oh, it's fine. So far, for the most part, for most people at least, it's been quite a pleasant pandemic. As far as ends of the world go this one seems a lot more relaxed than the various movie depictions. We should be on the streets running in random directions screaming and waving our arms in the air. But instead, we're all chilling at home baking bread and learning new languages. I hope the world will end more often.

These people do not exist in my world, so more problems solved. And besides, even if they did, due to their recklessness, the non-existent virus will wipe out many of these non-existent politicians and their non-existent supporters. After all, 0 - 0 = 0.

Compatibility is good, identity (100%) is redundant. I'm probably close to 100% compatible with my former and future selves-- tho sometimes I'm not sure. Btw, I was wondering about the artist "Juke Ellington" (if memory serves) in your library. As a huge fan of Duke, it piqued my curiosity.

Footwork music. A genre of house developed in 90s Chicago from Juke and Ghetto Tech (though I think that guy's from Belgium) that's had a recent (the past 10 years) resurgence, fast elaborate beats, people dance to it like the floor's electrified. So nothing to do with swing jazz. Top (or at least most popular) producers DJ Rashad, RP Boo, Traxman. I like where many Japanese DJs have taken matters and other outliers: https://daily.bandcamp.com/scene-report/japanese-juke-footwork-list

Hello from Germany, I saw you use lastfm for over 12 years already :-) ... Looking back over that decade: how did your "musical journey" mature over the years? ... Also... all the best for your forthcoming **"37900 artists scrobbled" milestone** ... How I found you actually? ... lastfm shows you as #1 in this weekly "Scrobble Leaderboard" charts: last DOT fm/user/Lipid/listening-report/week ... I am at #2 there ... nice to meet you

Ha! I don't like to look that far back as I'm often embarrassed by what I used to listen to. Also there is a lot more listening history before those last twelve years. I'm older than 50 and have always been looking for new things to hear since I was 11 from when I got my first record player as a Christmas present.

I have also some scrobbles I won't ever listen to and don't like, but that's part of life and stays in my history. Everyone has such phases :-) ... Yeah, too bad, scrobbling was not invented much earlier... I don't remember anymore when I started listening radio (that was back then the only source for music), and then as youth starting to buy cassettes... I guess that would be a nice thing to have scrobbling back then... The good old times... What's your musical plan for this week(end)?

that's interesting. It may be a bug with the scrobbler client and itunes or at least the scrobbler client on the mac whereby the previously scrobbled track is resubmitted when the next scrobble is submitted. As you can see each track is scrobbled a second time. This doesn't appear to be happening for the tracks I've played via Spotify.

Given the large number and wide variety of things that there are in the universe it’s difficult to generalise on how they are but of those which directly impact my life, those things at least could be worse and by the same token they could be better. But in spite of all the ups and downs on the whole I should say I’m better off than most even though it doesn’t always feel that way. But that’s hardly a distinction worth making, between how things feel and how things actually are. It’s the same difference as between things which don’t exist and things i’m not currently aware of; they are the same. So if I close my eyes tight and only think happy thoughts then everything is right with the world and I am fine. How are things with you?

2010 I associate with the emergence of witch house and chill wave maybe or perhaps that was a few years earlier. If you have spotify then my top 50 2010 tracks are: https://open.spotify.com/user/1112169833/playlist/24hijGsSTeo6xJoQKZ1Keb Strolling through your last fm I'm getting mostly classic indie from over the past 40 years with no one who doesn't know how to hammer out a decent tune. Top of your list currently is GBV who had songs to burn, Bee Thousand tears through one brilliant idea after another dashing some off in less than a minute. They and most in their lfm similar artists list I liked or at least bought records by. From that list the first one that made me think damn I need to listen to these again right now! was Eric's Trip their album Love Tara is perfect. And Yo La Tengo is in there too, their back catalogue is huge and they're still going, I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One is my favourite of theirs. LFM limits comments to 1000 characters and this is now exactly 1000.

ah sure you don't have to know me to talk to me. I listen at work and have the music on all the time when at home. It doesn't interfere with my daily goings about and i rarely leave the house with ears unplugged. Finding new stuff is easy nowadays, centuries ago as a tiny boy i would go to secondhand record shops, buy, tape then sell the records to another shop so as to buy then tape more. Now in the far distant future things are easier. I'm always looking for new ways to find new music and couldn't begin to list them. My favourite is to copy other people on last fm and discussion forums. It puts music in an interesting context once you get to know someone else's tastes; it's no longer just this or that band it's a so-and-so's kind of band. Over the past many years i've come to associate a lot of music with a lot of different people. While out and about something will pop on through the 'phones and i'll be reminded of this person and the conversation we had on that forum ten years ago.

Listening to the album now and she’s giving a lecture on latent heat of melting and where the energy’s gonna go instead once the arctic ice cover’s gone; in to making the water hotter. Which is a coincidence coz I was explaining the very same last night on the piss but using the ice in my drink as an example and how, as long as there’s at least a sliver left the liquid stays cold. Maybe I should be worried about this. Or maybe we just need to finish our drinks before the ice melts.

Well, you've got a point.. Anyway, I've found a couple of good friends from here, with a matching taste. Or did I even meet some boyfriend in here, maybe. But that was more than 5 years ago, the neighbours chart used to be better back then, was easier to spot people with a matching taste. At least they've got the notifications back, that's improvement.

I forgot to answer, yeah I had a period too when I always wanted to listen to music while outside, it's an enhanced experience to take your music to different places and see (listen) how it relates and fits into certain surroundings. for instance this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wahyY3GHnBI is made to ride around slowly on a bicycle, that beat and then.. "the wheel's a generator, something's coming this way" and so on. Another great cycling track is https://open.spotify.com/track/2XbRfXxickzNpUvrUnEmgn , especially that version. Or this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJFbNL_AAts . Rateyourmusic is soon changing to Sonemic, just hope they wont change too much of the design.
