Deathspell Omega has challenged me during naïve times and comforted me during difficult ones, so they've always had a big impact on my life as far as musicians go. They take neither aesthetics nor language for granted, which is rare in modern artists. Rare in people in general, frankly. Plus, we seem to love (and hate) the same things, which always helps. Anyway, slightly lesser-known jazz albums I adore are Marion Brown's Vista, Lou Donaldson's Blues Walk, Ike Quebec's Blue & Sentimental, and Dexter Gordon's Go. Anyone familiar with the famous classics and cult classics should find them enjoyable.

They are a rarity indeed. One of a kind in terms of their artistry and willingess to pursue their vision to their very end, even if it's inherently ''self-destructive'' to do so, to paraphrase them. Ever since my introduction to them i've struggled to find other music that hits the same spot in my heart. Thank you for the albums, i'll be sure to give them a listen soon.

Like nearly all shoutboxes, I don't think that shithole of pedantic cynicism and cowardly snark masked as principle is worth much energy or time. This site is more concerned with 15 years out of date memes and whining about how whiny the other team is. Let them go deaf by the sound of their own barking.

For gameplay, it's Resident Evil 4, Super Metroid and MGS3. For story, it's MGS2 (https://i.imgur.com/l16Fzt6.jpg), Planescape: Torment and Virtue's Last Reward. I don't play much these days but the only ones that hold my attention lately are Tetris 99 and Spelunky 2.

VLR has perhaps the most unforeseeable plot twist I've ever come across, you should like it if you enjoyed 999. I've played Disco twice and enjoyed it immensely, it was actually what made me get into Planescape as the creators cited it as their biggest inspiration. Haven't played Rain World but I played Hollow Knight back when it came out and enjoyed it.

I can't find a pianist whom I connect with more these days, including both his solo output and his work with Coltrane. His patience and self-restraint are astonishing.

Nice, he's among my favorites as well. I think he really blossomed as a player after he left the Coltrane group. I'm not sure what you mean by self-restraint? He certainly fired on all cylinders back in the 70s; man was a shredding machine on the keys during those days.

I think being left-handed made his approach to certain standards a lot softer than most other pianists. His right-hand leads are very deliberate and delicate on a lot of songs. I like his speed too, but I think his unique vocabulary shines better on the more subdued improvisations. I prefer Bud Powell when it comes to piano shredding.

What did you think of the new NOT TIGHT album by DOMi & JD Beck? As someone has fallen out of jazz music, I think it's a really good reentrance into the genre for me. Great instrumentation from both DOMi on the keyboard and JD on the drums respectively, and each feature on the album is fits into place and sounds amazing as well. Also, do you have any recommendation albums for someone trying to get into jazz, new artists and old alike?

It's pretty decent. They definitely had a very specific vibe in mind and they seemingly nailed it, and the performances are clean. I personally preferred the piano much more than the drums. I will say that the buzz surrounding this album is confusing me because while it is good, meticulously produced and basically has zero filler moments, it's not doing anything remarkable either. As far as nu jazz & jazz-hop goes, I think acts like Niechec, Yussef Kamaal or Uyama Hiroto are better examples. On the other hand, the Thundercat and Herbie Hancock appearances were very welcome, and if those two endorse Domi & Beck, they see something in them that I currently don't. They clearly have a lot of potential, hopefully they find a way to fully unleash it over the coming years. Anyway, for nujazz you'll probably like Black Focus by Yussef Kamaal (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LojaV_kXBI4) and Freeform Jazz by Uyama Hiroto (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyV2nKhL--8).

I also liked how he notes how they strike a somber, sinister tone in the song's solo. By the way, Nile slays, but you are missing one song in their discography, specifically "Sss Haa Set Yoth" from Annihilation of the Wicked, which initially was only on the Japanese special edition of the album. I think they did it on purpose to make it more mystifying, hidden and unknown. Set in this song is more of a Set from the Conan universe, but that's understandable since they allude to the Lovecraft mythos and they are intertwined.

This is a matter of course. Probably neither we nor the moderators got sharper, it was pinned on someone else as Op, I am used to doing backups, so that's my last word on the subject, (I am not entirely sure the guy was a literal nazi, so I apologized to him in advance, as befits a true gentleman. He was probably just an alt-righter, whatever.): https://www.suomenmaa.fi/uutiset/il-pekka-toveri-epailee-putinin-sortuneen-hitlerin-virheeseen-ampumatarvikevarastojen-takaseina-alkaa-pian-nakya/ -- A retired Finnish major general compares Putin's strategy to Hitler. By the way, if you suffer from albinism, I am sorry that I offended you because of the context you raved about and your complexion. I did not mean to generalize albinism, albinos are persecuted more than blacks (except black albino.) But that may be because I was primarily taken aback by your whiteness in the first place. It is rare to find a whiter person, and such Nazis think they are special.

I actually have a question for you, regarding Arvo Pärt. I'm from the same country he is from, but I know shit about classical besides what is taught at school and I've noticed that Pärt has a quite significant international following. What's your personal opinion on him and at what tier would you place him among classical composers?

I adore him but I don't know where exactly I'd rank him since I don't listen to too much classical music in the first place. I suppose he's probably in my top 10 along with Shostakovich, Schnittke, Brahms, Schumann, Mahler, etc. I think the worst side-effect of Pärt's global popularity is that his most simplistic songs have been heavily overused in commercials and movie trailers (especially Spiegel im Spiegel, Für Alina and Fratres), which has led a lot of classical music snobs to think that all of his music is just milquetoast elevator music. That's a common misconception. His best pieces are much more grandiose & nuanced, you just have to dig a little beyond whatever Spotify playlist is trending to find the stuff of his that's genuinely soul-touching. Miserere, Tabula Rasa & Te Deum are some of my favorites.

"For the American rabbi and physicist Jeremy England, the misconception that science and religion have nothing to say to each other arises from a mirrored error whereby each side assumes the other only speaks one language. In fact, there are many languages within each: different scientific disciplines may adopt distinct approaches to the same problem, just as religious scholars may have different readings of the same sacred text. That linguistic multiplicity is a good thing, he thinks – if only it wasn’t so often misconstrued – because it’s at the boundaries between languages, or world-views, that discovery happens."

Kinda annoyed though that people are still surprised to find out that so many scientists are in fact religious. It's part of the idea that the excesses of positivism, scientism and even this new-age "rATionALiSm" is indicative of Science in general, all because a bunch of scientifically illiterate anti-materialist nerds waged war against equally scientifically illiterate Reddit-tier "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" and Dawkins/Sam Harris neo-evangelism nerds (STOP.
