I LOVEE this song! The lyrics are so well written, the imagery he uses in unmatched. My favorite line is: "Oh, but how can words express the feel of sunlight in the morning in the hills, away from city strife"

I like this version most of all. I love the line “And if she asks you why, you can tell her that I told you,” such a nice melody.

I love the old version, but I actually think this version of the song is almost better, more beautiful, and truly haunting in the way only Don McLean and Harry Chapin know how.

There is indeed two versions of this. In 1972 it was on the 'b' side "Vincent" and it was quite fast, then in1981 he re-recorded a slower version ( which I personally prefer.) But each to his or her own.Pax to all from Ian Smith.Xxx.

That's a different slant on things Angel. Better now than later though eh. Still one of my favourites, singer & song.

He recorded 2 versions, one a little bit more up beat. You know what, they are both great!, as is Don.
